How would you rate your cloud provider? What is their uptime SLA?

There are a variety of cloud computing service providers.  Many of them have varying offers to entice you.   Some of the most popular cloud providers are vCloud, Microsoft Azure, Google App Engine, Amazon Web Services (EC2), and iNSOL ARC.

Below are key questions that you should know about your cloud services provider.

  • How frequently is data backed up?
  • What is your password strength policy?
  • Does the password policy include forced password updates?
  • What is the document retention policy?
  • Do you backup metadata and administrative logs?
  • What is your SLA?
  • What is your account deactivation policy?

So what does this mean to you?  Basically, it is the scheduled downtime when your cloud will be unavailable.
